Program Overview

Introduction

The Japanese Program at Howard University is housed in the Department of World Languages and Cultures.​  Students can take Japanese  language courses as well as courses on literature, culture, film and music.  

Students interested in choosing a  minor in Japanese  should contact the program coordinator.

Japan has the third largest economy in the world.  It is a prosperous country and has the most diverse economy in Asia.  Whether you're in the field of business, engineering, manufacturing, research, economics, or politics, chances are you will be working for a Japanese entity.

Course Requirements

The Japanese Minor at Howard University requires 18 credit hours beyond the 004 level of language, which can be completed taking courses on Japanese language, literature and culture.  See Prof. Etsuko Yamakita to verify which courses qualify.

Study Abroad

Students are highly encouraged to engage in study abroad to Japan. You should consult the faculty advisor, Prof. Etsuko Yamakita, to see which program best fits your interests.
